Sprigs of Time

Aaron Joseph Sewards

Hiromart Gallery is excited to announce the opening of Sprigs of Time, an exhibition of works by Aaron Joseph Sewards, a British artist known for his small-scale watercolor paintings.

This debut exhibition presents a collection of new works inspired by photographs taken by his grandfather, who always carried a camera and documented the quiet, enchanting scenes of England.

Sewards reflects on these images, making them his own.

The exhibition title, a playful wordplay incorporating a sprig of thyme emerged while producing this group of works. It also evokes the name of a folk song from the part of England where many of these paintings are set.

Artist Statement for Sprigs of Time:

My grandfather always had a camera with him and took a lot of photos of my grandmother and their friends, he took a lot more photographs of trees and railways lines, dove cotes and fields. I’m going to use these images as a starting point for a body of work, some number of small detailed paintings inspired by these images and working outward from there.

Many of the photographs I have are of Lincolnshire where he lived, more are from Suffolk and Norfolk where they used to go walking (and pigeon racing)
